Project 01: Our Equals
Understanding the Price of Indifference and Indulgence
Joy, pain, love, grief- emotions we can all relate to. Yet, how often do we stop to think that animals feel them too? Instead, we reduce them to commodities, ours to use, trade, and exploit. We take their lives for delicacies, fashion, and furniture: absurdities that defy the empathy we claim to hold dear. This project is a response to that disconnect, a call to challenge the entitlement that blinds us to their suffering and to honour their right to simply exist.

Through photography and storytelling, this work seeks to document animals both in human care and in the wild. It uncovers their quirks, behaviours, and personalities to inspire empathy. By helping people see animals as sentient beings rather than resources, it aims to bridge the emotional gap that allows their exploitation to persist.

This body of work is an evolving exploration, growing naturally as new animals are encountered, new behaviours observed, and new insights uncovered. It allows the animals themselves to guide the narrative, grouping their stories through meaningful themes rather than imposing predefined categories. The three themes currently in progress are:
Strength in Numbers
Duos, Trios and Troops
Focusing on species that rely on social bonds for survival, where cooperation and connection are essential.
Solitude
The Art of Survival
Exploring animals that navigate life alone, finding strength or vulnerability in their solitary existence.
Motherhood
The Quiet Sacrifice
Reflecting on the sacrifices, resilience, and unwavering devotion of mothers in the animal kingdom.
These themes reflect universal experiences shared by animals and humans alike; community, independence, and the deep bonds of motherhood, providing a window into their world and ours.
This project supports the care and preservation of these incredible beings by fostering connections through storytelling, providing insight into the vital work of sanctuaries, and donating proceeds from sales.
